Now that malware is no longer just a “what if” scenario and a real threat for Android users, AVG Technologies is swooping in to protect not just smart phones but tablets. The new AVG Mobilation for Android scans pretty much everything for viruses and mobile malware, including apps but also files and even settings. Like other Android security solutions, AVG’s also lets you remotely track and wipe your Xoom or other Android slate should it get lost or stolen. And so you don’t have to start over from scratch, Mobilation for Android backs up contacts, call logs, bookmarks, messages and installed applications to an SD card.
Worried about your kids playing with inappropriate stuff when you’re not looking? The ‘app locker’ can password protect any app on your tablet. We went hands on with this app briefly here at CTIA and appreciated the very simple interface (complete with a little pill to signal the virus scan). You can also use Mobilation to scan for spam (though Gmail is pretty good at that already) and as a taskiller.
There will be free and pro versions, but we’re confirming what you get and how much you’ll have to shell out for all the bells and whistles. AVG’s Android phone software costs $10.
